Wilma

Hello April, Sandi , Cathy, and the Alspach families hope you are OK. We watched the news and it sounded like Port St Lucia and the rest of Florida got hit pretty hard. Please let us know how you all are.

I think I might be one of the only people that's talked to them, so I thought I'd leave a message and let everyone know how things are.

Palm Beach County (where Sandi and Cathy are) got the entire eye of the hurricane, so they got hit pretty hard. From what my mother says, it's worse than last year, but they're still fine. She lost power around noon yesterday, and when she woke up this morning they had no water, either. She's not entirely happy about having to brush her teeth using bottled water, and not being able to take a shower/wash her hands.

According to her, Aunt Cathy is also fine, though she lost her porch. That's all I've heard about her. My grandmother also seems fine from what my mother says. I don't think either of them have power, as well.

The cell phones are still sporadic, so that's all I know.

Hey,
We did not get hit by Wilma here in Tallahassee, but everyone down South got hit pretty hard as Carrie said. My parents said that it was one of the worst hurricanes to date as far as the winds go. Ralph spoke with Cheyenne and Amy thay are fine. David, Danny, and Chris are all fine as well. They just have no power, and from what we've heard they may be without it for about a month. Cheyenne has a generator so that helps a little. But, I will speak for them by saying that as hard as it may be to deal with the loss of power at least they still have a roof over their heads it could have been alot worse, as strong as that storm was, and with Palm Beach getting hit with the eye of that terrible storm..... Hope this helps. :)

Life is good. I have water, electricity, and cable (aka internet service!). I go back to work tomorrow morning, but the public schools are still out since many areas in the county are still without electric. Cathy is one of the families still waiting for power to come back on. She lost a good portion of her roof as well as the screens on her porch. But we've been able to talk, and she sounds good.

As if the storm wasn't enough excitement, Becky broke her arm Saturday while in Tallahassee with the band. They got back Sunday evening and I was able to get her into the emergency room to be x-rayed just before the hospital closed down due to the tropical force winds that came ahead of Wilm. They put a temporary cast on it, and we were finally able to get into the orthopedic doctor on Friday. Luckily it was just a fracture, and the doctor says it will be just 4 weeks in a cast.

Port St Lucie had more excitment and damage from the back end of Wilma than anyone expected. The wind and rain was unbelievable, the street in front of my house had 4 feet of water, the water was almost up to the front porch, my neighbors yard was completely under water. But we are fine and like Laurie says we still have a roof over our heads, unlike Cathy & Orlando. Trees are down and people lost screen rooms and there are still people in FEMA trailers from last year. Some of my friends lost their trailers, the damage wind and rain can do is unbelievable. Most Stores had power by Wednesday and I got power back on Friday, not all the gas stations are open yet, but mostly things are going pretty smoothly. How is Leslie & Doug doing with their repairs? It is a slow process.

Hi, Everyone!
Just thought we're ok. We had major power lines down across our road (they looked like an electri fence) so we couldn't leave our neighborhood until FPL cut them 4 days after the huricane. (Not fun.) We finally got power back 7 days after Wilma's visit and internet 12 days after it. FEMA is coming to look at our roof tomorrow and the army corp should be here by Nov 30th. Orlando and I both went back to work on the 31st...He was lucky that his WalMart was actually up and running then. My office didn't get power back until yesterday, so I've been commuting to North Boyton (an hour from home) to my boss' mother's office to work. Let me tell you, it's a lot of fun to drive when all the street lights are down and everything is a 4 way stop. Nyssa is excited, Palm Beach is finally going back to school this coming Monday (11/7). I do have to brag alittle..the only shingles that are left on our roof are the ones Orlando and I put on last year. I guess we didn't do too bad.

We were so glad to here you finally got your power back. I can not imagine going one day without water and electric, never mind 7. Is the Army coming to help clean up? Did you get a lot of water damage from your roof. Uncle Herbs been running late every day trying to get all the calls that came in taken care of. People wanted him yesterday. He finally had to slow down after he fell last Wed. The ladder slid out as he was stepping onto the roof, and he landed in the driveway. Granny's angel was with him cause he just got a lot of purple bruises . Nothing broken, but very sore.

Hi, Aunt Gail,
I'm glad Uncle Herb wasn't hurt more seriously. I had to tell Nyssa tonight that she can't go up on the roof to read anymore (or at least until we can get a roofer to actually fix it) I guess it's the Neuhaus blood coming thru. Each time it rains we discover new leaks. I've told Orlando that I'm not at all crazy about the black ceiling (mold, yuck!) but until the insurance guy sees it I have to live with it. Like Sandi said in an earlier post if you're a roofer you're a demigod...if you can get one to show up to give an estimate (let alone work on it) you're a super hero...if you can get one to return your phone call then you run out to buy the lottery ticket cause you're the luckiest person in the county!
